Thanks for praying with me this week. This is the last of the prayers, at least for now. I plan to be back on Tuesday to let you know what I'm thinking next for this blog.
Blessings today,
John
The Spirit as Teacher
O God the Holy Spirit,
That which I know not, teach thou me,
Keep me a humble disciple in the school of Christ,
Learning daily there what I am in myself, a fallen sinful creature,
justly deserving everlasting destruction;
O let me never lose sight of my need of a Saviour,
or forget that apart from him I am nothing, and can do nothing.
Open my understanding to know the Holy Scriptures;
Reveal to my soul the counsels and works of the blessed Trinity;
Instill into my dark mind the saving knowledge of Jesus;
O lead me into all truth, thou Spirit of wisdom and revelation,
That I may know the things that belong unto my peace
And through thee be made anew.
Make practical upon my heart the Father’s love
as thou hast revealed it in the Scriptures;
Apply to my soul the blood of Christ, effectually, continually,
and help me to believe, with conscience
comforted, that it cleanseth from all sin;
Lead me from faith to faith,
that I may at all times have freedom to come
to a reconciled Father,
and may be able to maintain peace with him
against doubts, fears, corruptions, temptations.
Thy office is to teach me to draw near to Christ with a pure heart,
steadfastly persuaded of his love,
in the full assurance of faith.
Let me never falter in this way.

Did you see those Vikings John?!!!!
What an awesome game!!!! How sweet it was! Welcome to our Dome boys!!!!
"Teach me to draw near to Christ with a pure heart...in the full assurance of faith." Thank you for leading us in prayer this week and for leading us with a Christ-filled heart.
Now, for less serious things, praying for Brett? I will admit, I might have been praying for an interception or two (not a big Brett fan here), so Amers, please don't think less of me. Remember, I am a Raiders fan, so what kind of judgment do I have anyway.
I am off to do the honey-do list today and hopefully get my Christmas lights off the roof. Wow, these roofs are high...
Wouldn't it be great to get the entire family of bloggers here together in one spot (where it is warm, sunny, and tropical) and have a fabulous prayer time together? Just thinking, in Christ all things are possible...
Have a great day!
Randall
I can't tell you how sweet it is to see him in purple and gold!
Sorry about your Raiders. I would tell you it's time to find a new team but you're a faithful fan...I respect that!
Well,I don't think God minds if I wait till after the Super Bowl to start my praise only prayer time...We've gotta get past the Saints...Brett could use a little supernatural empowerment for that one!
No hard feelings bloggin' friend(just be nice to Brett next Sunday....okay?!)
I can't believe this is turning into a Viking forum.
But, oh well, Go Viks!!
back on topic... thank you for printing the useful prayers which are enjopyable to read and ponder.

Good prayers. But my favorite prayer is St. Francis of Assisi's, because his prayer is not just vertical, but also horizontal. I think that we too often either pray for what we want on this earth, or we concentrate solely on our relationship with God to the exclusion of earthly relationships and our need for God in those. A lot of the older prayers focus on our sinfulness and God's forgiveness. They're introspective prayers. I don't do well horizontally when I get introspective vertically! That's why I like St. Francis' prayer for a model for myself. I want God to pour out the Holy Spirit through me, and I don't want to get in His way! (Boy, that ain't easy, either!)
"Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace... Where there is hatred, let me sow love... where there is injury, pardon... where there is doubt, faith... where there is despair, hope... where there is injury, pardon... O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood, as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life."
(Hope I got that right. I'm writing from memory.)
By the way, I know nothing about the Vikings or the Raiders or the Packing Cases, or whatever they're called. But I hope you enjoyed the game!
