I’m now two weeks into my new role as Acting District Superintendent for the Alliance Northwest. My opening days at the District Office in Wilsonville, OR were rich. The team there gave me a warm welcome and we dove right in to matters at hand. The previous D. S. (Matt Boda) gave to me as healthy of a hand-off as any I could ever hope for. I’ve got much to learn, but I’m encouraged by the people who preceded me and who now surround me.
Meanwhile, book #2 (In the Midst), is just about ready to go to press. I’m hoping for a September 15 release date. And, the preaching schedule (as you can see below) reveals the great honor that I have on the weekends. To my wife’s true pleasure, our little home remodeling project (little home, major remodel) has begun to get some traction after stalling for some months. (A 14 yard dumpster arrives tomorrow. Good-bye old! Make room for the new!)
None of this leaves me with much time to come up with anything significant to say on this blog . . . but I never wanted to be a replacement for your daily Bible reading anyway. (Not that any of you were ever guilty of that, but it does absolve my “why didn’t you say something meaningful” guilt.)
Thanks for your interest, prayers and concern for our lives. My health continues to seem to be on the right trajectory.
Grateful,
John Stumbo

I posted about your Survivor talk (that is planned at Chemeketa College Auditorium) on Facebook last night, and said I wished I could attend. It's the night of our Dallas Lions Board meeting, and I'm the Secretary.
When I saw Debbie Rempel today, she said Val Unger posted (on FB) that she'd take the minutes for me, so hopefully I'll get to come.
I have never met you, and started following your story sometime after I heard two of your congregration (in a Salem McDonald's)talking about "fasting and prayer" for your recovery. Debbie had frequently posted prayer requests in our church(Faith Evangelical Free Church in Dallas) for your healing.
Being a retired nurse (who worked in the small ICU at the hospital in Dallas) it has been interesting to read about the medical side, but your Christian witness is more important.
I often sign Caring Bridge sites as Nurse Barb, so hoping I get to meet you.

Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it
better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
We've never met but I have read your book and it made quite an impact on me. A friend let me borrow the book in the spring of this year, a time when I had multiple health problems spring up out of nowhere. Without explanation, I developed a lesion on my spine, problems concentrating, weakness in my arms and legs, fatigue, forgetfulness, peripheral neuropathy, the list goes on.
What amazed me from your book (well, one thing of many!) was the link with running, because just over a year ago I took up running (having never desired to try it before). I didn't reach the marathon level like you, but still to have that ability taken away was something tough to adjust to. So many of the passages of your book about your guesses as to why God was allowing this to happen, and trying to figure out the reason, were the very same thoughts I'd had with my own health problems. Some of the words jumped off the pages as if I could have written them myself. It was remarkable how much I needed your book.
I was happy for you that you did begin to recover and at least got a diagnosis in the end. I can't say I am recovered any significant amount b/c my symptoms come and go. The doctor who I trust most believes I have Lyme disease, but several tests for it have come back negative. I have seen several doctors and specialists, who often had conflicting opinions of what was wrong with me. The doctors and their tests are of course mighty expensive! God has provided, though, and I give Him thanks and praise.
With 3 children ages under the age of 9, life must go on no matter how bad I feel on some days. I often think back to your book when I need some added encouragement, and truly appreciate your honest descriptions of what you went through. I am a member at Community Alliance in Butler, PA. Last Sunday, Pastor Denny announced during the service you would be speaking at our church on September 16! An immediate smile came to my face and I excitedly turned to my husband and said, "That's the guy! The pastor! I read his book! This is SO GREAT!" Needless to say, I'm excited to hear you speak. I pray you are blessed on your speaking tour, as no doubt your words and story will bless many, many people as they have me! Thanks again.
copyright violation? My blog has a lot of unique content I've either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my permission. Do you know any solutions to help reduce content from being ripped off? I'd definitely appreciate it.
